Paper Comets, Winter Issue: Contributor Call!

Today, we are excited to announce the theme for the winter issue of Paper Comets! For two months we have collected your feedback and have placed an immense amount of effort to utilize the constructive criticism received in order to make Freckled Minds work in an improved, cohesive matter. After many weeks of deliberation, the topic has been set!

Revelation. As we grow, our perceptions of various aspects change, and perhaps we uncover something that is important that we haven't discovered or made known to us before. Often, these revelations are most abundant during our adolescent years, where we are slowly morphing from young children to beautiful, independent fine women. Where it be that today's beauty standards are difficult to define, or allowing yourself to cry in a place that says to conceal your feels, to finding strength in the tiniest places, perhaps in a coffee shop while reading Pride and Prejudice with your back against the brick wall or watching Downton Abbey wallowed up in blankets at seven in the morning, there is something out there that everyone has discovered, and something out there that everyone can share.

Yup! Many of our feedback responses have asked to have an even combination of all of the art forms. In order for us to accomplish this, we will ask our fellow contributors to rank their top three preferred mediums. Later, we'll notify what mediums you'll be using. This does sound a bit restricting-- we're not a huge fan of this method, either, but since we don't have a large base of readers and contributors to draw in from and  would like some variety, we believe this is the best way, for now, for allowing this aspect to run.

There are others changes that will be implemented, but they are diminutive in size, so there's no need to sweat about it. 

October 5th - 19th: Contributor submission form will be open.

October 22nd: Email sent out about what medium(s) will be used.

November 12th: Author photo, extra photo(s), bio, and guest post due.

November 19th: Content submissions due.

December 7th: Issue released.

 

The First Issue of Paper Comets

Hi! I am extremely excited to introduce to you all a collaborative project that we have been working on for the past several months: the zine, Paper Comets!

The history about Paper Comets and Freckled Minds is this: both of the founders rarely ever interacted in the blogging world, except for the occasional comments every once in awhile. One lazy summer day, the idea of creating a yearbook anthology sort of thing for the 2016 blogging community strolled into Morning's mind, around the same time Ava brainstormed an idea for creating a community zine. The two emailed each other at around the same time on the exact same day.

Great minds think alike, huh?

Both founders decided to collaborate together to create a creative hub community, known as Freckled Minds, and since both of us each wanted to do our own little thing, we both created our own zines: Ava's zine is Sacred Zine Club (publish date to be determined), focused more towards the visual arts aspect, while Morning's would mainly overlook Paper Comets, the zine focused more towards the word-writing aspect and the idea of artistic vision.

For Paper Comets, roughly fifteen bloggers gathered together to share their artistic talents, and now, we are ready to reveal the final product that has been in the works for over fifteen months! 

Our theme for our first issue was words: words that we felt were important to us. Tell us what you all think! We're constantly looking for contributors, both in the zine and the Freckled Minds site, so if you are a female creative mind over the age of fourteen, looking for a platform to cultivate your personal artistic voice, this is a platform that can potentially bring you out to a larger audience! What is art? How do we, as artists, grow, and how can we connect with other creative-minded individuals?

Hello, and welcome to Freckled Minds, an art collective for and by teen girls. Here you will find updates on our newest projects, in process shots, tips and tricks on creating, and inspiring interviews. We believe in the expression and growth of personal artistic voice via the interaction a creative mind has with her surroundings and community. Below are some of the upcoming projects we have in store.

Sacred Zine Club!, edited and designed by Ava:
The goal for this zine was to create a beautiful and nostalgic piece of tangible art.
Sacred Zine Club (official title has yet to be determined) is a collection of personally significant memories, small snippets of the contributing artists' life they never want to forget.
Currently it includes the talents of Nicole, Cia, Rebekah "Ke'alohi" Wang, Adelaide, Nina, Kathryn, and MorningTime4, and is scheduled to print mid-August.

Paper Comets, edited and designed by Morning:
The cultivation and of personal voice, especially during the teenage years, is exceptionally important, and that is the primary goal with Paper Comets. Unlike its sister magazine, Seasons Zine, Paper Comets will be distributed digitally for free. After brainstorming for many days over a theme, the collective decision for the first issue is to base the theme around words, each choosing a word or a set of words and conveying what it means to them, instilling their own personal touches in various mediums. All talented minds behind our first issue are wonderful ladies, hailing from different parts of the globe and different blogging eras, eager to share their creative mindset: Hannah, Katie, Anna, Ava, Bethan, Rose, Mackenzie, Olivia, Abbie, Rachel, Sophia, Grace, Autumn, and Mary Shelley. The tentative release date is late August through early September.

There are other ways to contribute sans the magazine, and there are two we wish to share with you right now. Excluding the founders' blogs and this blog, we are looking for about seven to nine volunteers who are willing to help host a blog tour to promote Freckled Minds, a tentative end date around September 1st. Once the idea's plans are more solidified, we will make another announcement. If you are interested, comment below or contact us via the contact form! Another way to contribute is to send us your photos, either of you working on the magazine projects or engaging in other artistic endeavors, and we may just feature them on our social media! Lastly, we are also asking to ask us more questions for our FAQ about things that you are unsure of.
